Greetings from Connecticut

I have been lurking about for several months. At long last, AAPK and I have decided to make our relationship legal. :wink:

I've lived in the Hartford area for close to 35 years. Nearly a year ago, I decided I wanted to learn enough about knives so I could better understand the motley collection of pocket knives (half of them junk) I had accumulated over the years. None of my acquaintances knows or cares anything about knives, so I turned to the Internet and soon discovered AAPK.

AAPK's discussions and its reference materials have been extremely helpful and very interesting. Friendly too. Many thanks to the members and administrators.

I'm nowhere near being a collector (yet?), but I have gotten much better at understanding and appreciating a well-made knife, which was my original goal.

Best to all,
Ken

::welcome:: Ken. I grew up in Berlin CT and lived in CT until 2001, I'm now retired and living in Delaware although I get to CT a few times/year. There are many members here from CT and most belong to NCCA (http://www.ncca.info/membership.htm) which sponsors three 1-day shows and one 2-day show each calendar year, all within easy driving distance for you. As I'm sure you know, the Connecticut River valley hosted many cutlery concerns, many of which were in CT. Thanks for becoming "legal", see you around the forums. Tom ::handshake::

Hello and ::welcome:: to AAPK. ::handshake:: I'm originally from the Mid-Hudson Valley region of New York.
The last time I was in Connecticut was 2009, in Bridgeport (for fried clams from a certain eatery, not knife related).
I've lived in Commiefornia since October 1978.

::welcome:: to AAPK, Ken! ::handshake::
Lots of us aren't collectors, we are accumulators. By being an accumulator you will eventually be exposed to certain knives and will gravitate to them and all of a sudden you find your self with a collection, maybe. :)

Ken, hello and welcome from Virginia! If you share our interest/love/passion (addiction) in knives, you have found the right place. This is the nicest, most knowledgable group of people I have ever encountered. Best regards. Herb

Welcome from Wyoming. My old kinfellow got out of Franklin, CT by 1777 to join the revolution, and then on to Ohio after the War. I always wanted to poke around in that area and see what is there.

Welcome, from south Texas! I made a few trips to CT...over the last few years...when my son was stationed at Groton. Very pretty...it's just that winter thing that gets me. Wish I had been able to make it to some of the knife shows you guys have. ::welcome::

ALL: Thank you all so much for the warm and friendly greetings. I'm touched.

Tom (bestgear): NCCA is new to me. It looks interesting. Thanks much for the link and information.

Yes--good call. I think I've already started gravitating towards a certain general style: serpentine handle, small-to-medium size, well made. I've really bonded with my new Case Peanut--though I'm sure I could be unfaithful to her if the right Pattern 18 stockman waltzed into town. :)
