And who is the genius that said no one would counterfeit a $10 knife? Looks like this is a few notches down from that. There is no basement level for the enterprise of man. I'm surprised it wasn't called folk art.

Looks OK to me. I think perhaps the name of the previous owner was "Case" and the seller got confused. Yeah, right.. ::td::

Okay, what were they thinking trying to pull that? I'm a complete noob at Case collecting, but I can tell a hundred miles off that's one glaring (and laughably bad) fake.

I am serious in this reply, even though I still do not think it fully explains this OP knife...

I met a lady at a resale shop and asked if she had any pocket knives. Her response, "Do you mean Case knives? I give all those to my husband and son". It took a bit to realize that she referred to ANY AND EVERY POCKET KNIFE AS A 'CASE KNIFE'. That was their nickname for a pocket knife, no matter the brand.

My father-in-law passed away years before I met and married his daughter, but they tell me that he when he asked for a "Case knife", he was asking for what we always called a "butter knife".

While it is more likely that somebody changed the OP knife as a joke for a coworker or something, it is food for thought that some people call items by a brand name, even when it doesn't fit.

I think what you're referring to is a colloquialism example. That would be how the same item is called different names depending on where you live. For example a potato might be called a spud in places and a tater in others. I have seen knives that came in wooden display boxes called cased knives in an auction description. It all depends on where you're from and what is common place there, maybe only the people in that area will know what you're talking about.

Or, perhaps it was marked that way to designate the knife that employees were supposed to use in the office to open any cardboard "case" (i.e. box)? ::ds::
