No telling what this is, but it’s not what the seller says it is. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Rare-Old-Vinta ... Swkkxd9yUA. That’s not green bone and that’s not Tested period jigging.

Same seller has a Robeson stockman and the jigged bone does not look right to me. Bone cuts are 'angular' and literally looks as if it was jigged yesterday: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Old-Vintage-Ro ... Swxlxd2cU5
This seller has a wide variety of very collectible brands and patterns listed. Are they all 're-works' or are some all original ?
Anyone know his real name ?

At least at one time he had an AAPK store as well.

I am curious as to why he refers to this as a "pocket knives lot" when there appears to be only one knife. More deception?

He is one of about five well-known ebay sellers that I just skip over. Bad descriptions and worn knives at high prices. There is another seller that I would love to buy from but he has NO descriptions, only two photos, and his offerings, although very desirable, are priced at anywhere from 200% to 500% of what I think market should be. Apparently he is selling them, because I don't see them re-listed.

Me too. I won’t buy from him even when he has an occasional honest offering.

That seller has some knives that would be pretty nice if they weren't buffed to high heaven.

I am continually amazed by the sheer quantity of knives he always has for sale. I also won't touch anything from him because his offerings are a mixture of good knives and fakes. Anyway, I see that everything he has up now is way over priced. Bah-humbug! ::td:: ::td::

One good thing you have to say about this seller is that he provides great pictures of his knives and that allows potential bidders to form critical opinions about them prior to bidding. Many of these wing nuts are taking pictures with a cell phone in a dark room and saying please refer to pics for the actual condition of the knife. You're lucky to be able to read the name on the shield.

Or it is (purposefully) so out-of-focus that it is hard to tell if it is a Case pocket knife or a Buick!

I fear that Ebay has become a home for these scalawags. It has become so tiresome combing through thousands of listings and very rarely finding a legitimate vintage knife that I would bid on that I seldom shop there anymore.

You may be right about the Robeson cattle knife, but I cannot say that bone is inconsistent with some Robeson bone I have seen.

The blades are obviously down some and the bone is crisp, but it looks right to me.

This, however, was originally a letter opener. ::dang::

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Rare-Vintage-R ... Swq1ld9yLw

Someone has removed the letter opener blade.
The remaining blade is an ink eraser, but a budding blade.

I have seen Robeson letter openers turned into a knife opener. Quite nicely done, too.

Charlie thanks for commenting on the Robeson Stockman/Cattle knife. If the bone look correct to you, then i feel sure it is correct. But how did blades get worn a little without touching the handles ? Maybe re-handled ? But are new vintage Robeson bone handles still available ? I wonder if some 'outfit' is manufacturing a replica of Robeson jigging ?

Roland, My guess on this Robeson...this was an unused knife whose blades were rusted over the years from poor storage. This guy (mstorm1982) took the blades to a belt sander to remove the rust. The handles survived the poor storage, the blade loss is what we see here. This is a likely scenario.

Thanks Barry. I appreciate your opinion because i know it is based on decades of looking at and handling knives, particularly those made in USA.

I have lots of knives on my watch list but so far no seller has sent me an offer. Can the seller see the ID of those watching his items ?

Roland ebay allows those who are watching an item to receive special offers.

Roland, No the seller can not see who is watching his stuff. But evidently he can send the watchers a special offer through ebay. Why don't you put that Robeson on your watch list, and see what happens?

Charlie, Thank you for pointing this "Doctors Budding Knife" out. Here is a couple of scans of my original Robeson Letter opener, 3" handle, 8 7/8" overall closed.......The "Doctor's" Letter Opener with the same 722376 pattern number, for conversation's sake.....Is there such a thing as a "Doctor of Budding"?
It's a shame this guy is one of many who are poisoning ebay with their fake, altered knives.
We here at AAPK are all better off, because of guys like you willing to share your expertise & knowledge.
Thanks again, Barry

Thanks, Barry.

This particular modification, I have seen more than once.

But, even to a person that has never seen an intact Robeson pearl handled 722376 letter opener combo, that flat end, instead of rounded as at the other end, should raise a question, I think.
