All About Pocket Knives

I purchased this knife awhile ago. It was badly abused and had alot of rust but the blade was full so I picked it up. Its been sitting in my project box waiting for some new bone handles (needed some larger bone slabs). I recently ordered a few larger bone pieces from Culpepper and picked up some Marigold colored Corncob pattern thick slabs that were just the right size.
I haven't done much with yellow bone but I'm not disliking it and will probably use it again.
The knife has steel liners and bolsters which were heavily pitted and stained. And the blade was heavily rusted and stained (I lightly refinished it). There's still some stains on the liners and blade but otherwise it cleaned up pretty nice.

I like that one!
I could find it I dropped it in the woods.

I am so glad to see you using some different colors of bone. I get to see them on your knives and then I can see if I like them in application....LOL.
I like this color! I didn't like the green until I saw the knife you covered in green and this is another good example!
Great job on the clean up too. The rust pits weren't too awfully bad.

Well done Jeff! That bone is something I would never pick on my own (color or pattern), but now that I see what you've done I realize that I will definitely have to "think outside of the box" in the future!

I try to pick some different colors and patterns with each bone order. With most of them I’ve been pretty happy but there have been a couple of duds in there.

That knife has been in my project box for about a year. I had seen the marigold color before but was hesitant to use it. Now that Ive used it though it’s something I would definitely use again.

Jeff as usual that's outstanding work! IMHO I think that when you look at the bone on a completed knife you get an entirely different perspective that just looking at the slab. The knife gives the bone life!

Yellow is one of those colors that works on some, not on others. I've seen it both good and bad depending on the car. Seems the sportier the car, the better it looks.

Same with knives. I've seen knives that shouldn't be yellow.

Yellow for cars definitely looks good on a 1970 Dodge Coronet Super Bee, a 1970 Chevy SS396 Chevelle and possibly a newer year Chevy Corvette (I'm sure there are a few others but those are the ones that come to mind).
And I can definitely agree that its probably only for certain knives. Luckily, it turned okay for this one!

I have loved yellow handled knives since childhood - my first "big-boy" knife was a German Eye with yellow plastic handles, and I still find myself drawn to them today.
But that yellow bone REALLY looks great!

The jigging on those beautiful scales. Is it applied by your good self or does it come that way from Culpepper.
If you do the jigging yourself, is it possible to share the technique.

I am fascinated by bone scales and jigging by hand.From what I currently understand it is applied with a Dremel like tool.

Hi Oz!
The bone comes with the jigging already done when I get it from Culpepper. I haven’t done any jigging by hand but I seem to remember one or two folks on here who have tried it.
