I'm not very familiar with older Case knives but this one doesn't look right to me. If it is real could you let me know what to look for on authenticating.

I see nothing wrong with it. Has a Case Tested block letter shield, green bone handle covers. Both are correct for a Tested era knife. Has no pattern number stamp, which is also typical for that era.

Here’s some better pictures - I’ve found I can’t see much from a phone display. ::facepalm::

The knife looks ok to me. Stamp looks good, the knife doesn't appear to have been messed with. There is a Lot of variation in greenbone but the bone looks authentic to me. Blades show typical wear. Altogether I see nothing to indicate that it would be fake. I know it has been covered before and disputed at times but the knife is not normally the type of knife value wise that is faked very often. As Ken said, the fact that the knife has no pattern stamp is typical for the era.
Hope this helps.

I'm curious how you can tell from the photos that the shield is pinned? (Unless I can see an indentation or outline of the base of the pin in the surface of the shield, I've always wondered how to tell whether a shield has been pinned or glued on. ::shrug:: )

The shields were pinned on all Case knives this old. Glued on shields are a relatively modern short cut and are why you see so many recently-made, used knives that are missing a shield. You don't see the pin heads on the shield, or on the bolsters for that matter, because the knife is well made and properly finished. If you open the blades and shine a light on the inside of the liner where the shield is attached you may be able to see the two spots where the pin heads have been filed flush with the inside surface of the liner.

Good job going over this knife with a fine toothed comb. ::tu:: This is definitely one counterfeiters would make because of the price and attention this pattern gets. ::nod::

It will be interesting to see how high this one goes.
