All About Pocket Knives

Anyone know of a place where I could buy about a 6" piece of spring steel that would fit between the liners (into the blade well) of a regular sized pocket knife? Thanks!

Jantz sells 2 sizes of it. The S&H is more than the steel.

If you wanted to get really adventurous... You could go to a car wrecker, and buy a leaf spring. Angle grinder would make short work of cutting it, and bonus, lots of leftovers for other knives. And it would probably be peanuts on the dollar, and like ya'll know me, I like to save a buck wherever I can .
Whatever you decide to do John, I would love to see pics of the finish product, as would most of the guys on here, if it's fine by you .

What type of round stock could be used to make a spring replacement for a press-button knife? That's what I'm trying repair/replace. On the Jantz website, but I'm not sure what I should buy. Thanks!

Don't those knives use a piece of flat spring steel? I would think that a piece of flat coil spring would work as long as you can bend it to conform to the pin. Not positive on that though, there's probably a chance that it would snap if you try bending it. Might have to bring a piece of soft steel to spring temper AFTER you bend it. I know MM had a few springs for sale in his store a while back.

Press Button and Schrade knives are difficult to make and fit properly, unless you have experience.

If you're dead set on DIY, springs can be made from many common tools including files, screw drivers, lawn mower blades or even harrow disks. You'd likely need to heat treat them (maybe anneal before and harden/temper after) but that's not too difficult.

I'll post the final result, I have two switches that could use spring repair. Heading to the farm tomorrow for the holiday where there are lots of opportunities and tools.
