All About Pocket Knives

Three poor, neglected orphans that I just finished up in smooth bone from Culpepper. (Yes, I got a little crazy and bought some of the blue smooth bone slabs from Culpepper.) I think I like the way the amber on the Ka-Bar turned out the best. I actually rehandled the swell-center Cammy in some kind of exotic African wood (maybe wenge?) a few years ago and never liked the way it turned out. So, this one technically is a "do-over". I do like the way the subtle patterns emerge in the undyed bone as you sand it down.

I have a couple of questions: what is the model or name of the amber KaBar and did the original handles have an Easy open notch? It’s not quite a Moose and it’s not quite a muskrat.

GORGEOUS knives! Considering that this weekend is Memorial Day weekend, let's refer to the colors as red, white and blue.

They do look good. That blue really pops for me!

Herbva, yes very patriotic. Ka Bar, short line Camillus and a long line, all lovely. The 72 looks Sunday go to meetin'.

I agree Treefarmer, it is a bit large for a muskrat and a bit smaller than a moose. I measure it at 3 7/8" and the tang stamp is 1063. I think it came to me missing its scales and had the notch already cut in the brass liner, so I just followed it with the new scales. The way the smaller blade sits (I think it is called a "California clip"), the notch is needed for access to the pull. Nice knife and the first one I recall encountering of this pattern. The red, white, and blue was an amazing coincidence, but quite appropriate. God bless America!

Herb, with that pattern # 1063, I find several places where it is called a "Muskrat". Just a bit different with the regular clip blade.
