All About Pocket Knives

I have had this knife for a while. When I first got it, it had no scales but I thought.... man, those blades sure look nice. I don't believe it had ever been used.
I thought I would try the old, "put new scales on without disassembly" method. SO, I cleaned it up and chose some Catalina Nutmeg for the new covers. For some reason, I thought the finished color was supposed to be darker than these turned out but not so.

Here she is with her new clothes on.... I sure wish the color would have turned out a little darker....

Very nice work Mike! I might be dreaming this up, but I seem to remember a post or discussion here or somewhere else about dyeing bone scales that are already on a knife. If you haven't put anything on the scales (like wax, which I use), I'm guessing that you could dunk the whole knife in dye and darken the color up a bit if that's what you want. Maybe someone who has tried this will chime in?

Mike that looks pretty awesome just the way it is. You really do knice work.

It does not look bad at all; but I agree, my preference would be for it to be a shade or two darker.

If it were my knife and I had my druthers, I'd druther it would be a couple of shades darker, but, twas not to be. Another fine example of your excellent skills.

Yep, I might just see if I can get some sort of stain on the bone to see if anything will sink in.

Well Dale, I HOPE the scales are pinned. I used the method Kaleb showed on a video where you use the "horn" of the stiddy to flatten the pin on the inside of the liner.
We shall see.

Mike, if you decide to try re-dyeing, please show us the end result. I guess, if all else fails, maybe try some dark brown shoe polish?

I love the look of that Catalina Nutmeg! I did one knife in that, and like you I had wanted it to be darker, but before long I preferred the light color. I'll bet that it grows on you after a while.
I soaked one knife in brown RIT dye to darken bone handles, and it worked, but it started rusting and I couldn't get it to stop. I suppose it is acidic.
I like Herb's suggestion of shoe polish (but I haven't tried it).
