All About Pocket Knives

Picked up this 4 line, brass liners, long nail pull.easy opener.
it has good bones on it.
when i reshape the main blade.
and buff out the dents in the bolsters.
i think it will make a good EDC

Rough around the edges, but like you said, still a great user! At least on yours, the bone is intact. Mine has had the spear blade modified to a crude clip point, and half the bone is missing on the pile side. Guess it's time I started messing about with Acra-Glas.

well i spent a after noon. in my shed.buffed the bolsters, reground the blades.
to what i read in a old book.
called parrot beak style.
point to stab , then broader to slice.
any one else heard of this knife blade grind?
the only thing i dont like is the bail.
can hit the blade . when closeing.
and the snaps are wicked. no wobble.
any idea of age ?

Nice work on that one Richard! The interesting "parrot beak" primary blade looks, to me, a little bit like a wharncliffe blade. Like Jerry said, it does have beautiful bone scales. If the bail bothers you, it can easily be removed. Just grind off one of the pin heads and then carefully tap or push the pin out gently with a thin punch (smaller than the hole in the knife). Of course, if you do this you will have a glaring, empty hole sitting there on each side that will have to be patched. I can't see the tang stamp in your pictures, but if it is a "4-liner", I believe that would place it in the early 1930's to mid 1940's period.

One of my favorite models of knives. And that one is enhanced greatly. Love what you did to the blade and love the bones.

These are quite commonly seen and are very well made, very pleasing to own. The vast majority have been used, not easy to find an unused example.
I had about 50 of them, all from ebay with an average price ~ $25. I posted about my collection of these either here or on BF ? and right away ebay prices went up with a lot more people bidding for them.
About 4-5 ? years ago i sold nearly all of them to a well known ebay seller.
If you keep looking you can find examples with better blade condition, but then you don't get the fun & satisfaction of working on the blades.

maybe on a truck dashboard ?
but for $6 bucks i am well happy with it.

Richard, that’s my kind of knife. What an old Beauty.Carry an Old Catt , and Cam W/ Bones as EDC .That Era of knife is the best there is for the money to. JP

It is fairly common with old knives to have one bone handle darker than the other. Bone takes up dye variably so even in factory pieces of bone slab vary in amount of color. The person responsible for hafting the knife did not spend time searching for 2 matching pieces. And sometimes one side can get a little bleached if left exposed to sun for a long time.

It's an awesome looking knife & for that price it was a steal! Especially after you reworked the blade!
