I'll miss UT Longhorn football, probably the most, amid this COVID thing...despite not having a very good team...for a long time!
I found this 2013 Moore Maker, Longhorn pattern knife, with a broken and cracked, ugly yellow handle.
Starting the project, on the porch, was this cicada. My dog, currently in the cone-of-shame, from getting fixed this week, found it rather interesting.
I figured a Longhorn pattern, should have a Longhorn on it.
I'll have a game-day knife now...when things finally get back to normal.
**** Please don't message me, with sources, citing this as a muskrat pattern. You won't change my mind...and besides, a muskrat would just be a silly mascot.

Nice Longhorn, and a good job getting away from the ugly scales!
I picked up a Moore Maker #5300 about a month ago with bone handles it's almost the same color, just a little lighter and the back handle is broken into three pieces. it has been used quite a bit, made in 2000 So it was probably made by Camillus.
Haven't decided what to put on it yet, but it may be one I will EDC.

My oldest daughter teaches at UT, but not their main campus. I learned that they have the largest University system in the U.S.
She has a PhD in Psychology.
I have a PhD in . . . No, wait. Mine stands for "Post Hole Digger". Nevermind.
I am glad she got her Mom's intelligence!

Beautiful work Doc! That red canvas micarta (or is it linen ?) really pops on that knife and the longhorn shield is very cool. I don't think there are too many knives out there with a shield on each side. One of my dogs actually eats those things (the cicada, not the knife) and actually puts on a few pounds as a result around this time of year. Yuk.

My dog that eats them actually hunts for them all day long with his nose on the ground. I think he prefers the nice fresh ones just as they emerge from the ground. Maybe they are less crunchy then and a little bit squishy?

Wow! I would have never guessed that! We don't have many copperheads, down around here...that I've seen. That's just freaky, to have that many around one area!!!

It is freaky to have that many, but not uncommon for copperheads to be after emerging cicadas. Lots of articles documenting it can be found, and even several YouTube videos. We do have copperheads here. According to the range map so do you. I’m lucky to be in the “hybrid zone” - we get to have them all.

We have our share of copperheads here. And they’re known to be very cantankerous too!

I had a brilliant professor in college who was educated in Korea as the son of a Confucian a scholar. He became a Christian sometime after the Korean War and came to the US to go to college. He arrived with I believe it was $3 and change in his pocket on the campus of Northwest Christian College in Eugene Oregon. Four years later he graduated with a Bachelors Degree Biblical Studies and a Masters Degree in Political Science from the University of Oregon. He worked and paid for his schooling and got to degrees in those 4 years, and I think he got married to. He went from there to Dropsy University of Hebrew and Cognate Learning (a Jewish seminary) where he earned a PhD in Rabbinical Studies. He was the 1st non-Occidental person to earn a PhD as a rabbi from that university, not to mention the fact that he wasn't Jewish, either religiously or racially. He returned to Northwest Christian College although he had numerous offers for very prestigious and high paying positions. He said NCC treated me fairly I will teach there. By the time I studied under him in the nineteen seventies he had added several more earned PhD's and several honorary PhD's. He spoke 7 languages fluently plus New Testament Greek and Old Testament Hebrew. I know he taught Hebrew and he may have taught Greek at one time as well. I think he retired in the early nineties, and incredibly brilliant professor, I took him fishing one time and you would've thought he had never had so much fun. Neat guy!
I recall him saying one time that:
A BS degree teaches you a little bit about everything.
An MS degree teaches you a lot about very little.
And a PhD teaches you a great deal about almost nothing.
I think if we were still on the rails, where definitely off of them now!
