What is with this narrow tang on the Case Peanut?

I just picked up this Case Peanut. Why is the tang on both blades more
narrow than usual? ( Circled the tang area that is "missing".)
Were these blades meant for another knife model?
When the blades are fully opened the tang does rest against the spring
as usual. The knife is completely otherwise normal.

I am only guessing, but maybe someone modified it because the pull was to strong. But that is only an uneducated guess.

Bob, please post a picture of the back of the knife with the blades open.
Here are some more pictures. It could be that the tang was filed down because the blades were
too tight to close against the springs. I would say that closing the blades now is intermediate.
On one of the blades there might be a small burr near the tang where there could have been filing.
Comparing the springs to my one blade Peanut this knife appears to have its springs extend closer to
the end of the bolster so maybe it was filed down?

Bob, I only have one peanut on hand right now, and it is a relatively new knife, but I think the large tang notches on both blades look like yours. From your picture of the back, the springs appear to line up perfectly with both blade tangs, so I'm inclined to think this is just the way these are made and there is nothing wrong, or altered with you knife.

Thanks everyone who responded. Before I posted I did a ebay completed search
Peanut knife and I did not see any narrow tangs.
This makes me feel better

In any event it is likely a weak design that would be prone to breaking off at the tang with heavy use. Reminds me of the Buck 311 trapper that was made by Camillus. They had a very similar narrow tang and were known to break off at the tang.
