Help with some Tang stamp ID..

A buddy brought this over today. He said his father got it in Germany during WWII. I have looked
and looked to no avail. I was hoping someone has seen this tang stamp before, and might be able
to shed some light on the maker of this knife.
It looks like a mushroom with a J and a P in it to me...

Looks like a German logo. I will have a quick look in my book on German cutlery.

That one has come up a few times. Information is from Carter's book on German Knife and Sword Makers. Your knife was made by Julius Pilz Sohne in Nixdorf, Bohemia. The company was founded in 1885. In a 1940 ad they listed their products as quality "pocket knives, hunting and gardening knives etc", and then included SA daggers and HJ knives. In a 1942 ad they advertised of pocket, hunting, gardening, kitchen and butcher knives. Carter does not give any information concerning the fate of the company past 1942.

It is, Stan. My buddy was told today that it was a Hitler Youth sheath, and a youth hunting knife. He thinks they
used up old sheaths and paired them with the knives..
