All About Pocket Knives

Got this from a neighbor. I don't see any marks on it but it's very well made and the stag is beautiful. Any idea on age or a value?

Vintage Carving Sets, knife, fork, steel, are 'out there' in large numbers, but no one collects them so even complete sets with stag as fine as shown in O.P. might sell for $25-$40.
Go back more than about 60 years and most household had a Carving Set. Mother would cook a roast along with vegetables and potatoes and the family had a sit down meal with dad doing the carving up of the roast. Now very few households cook sit down family meals but most still hang on to the previous generation's carving set.
There are millions of them 'out there', especially in Britain. Some sellers ask a lot of money but actual market value is low. Many of these Carving Sets have top notch stag, especially those made by Jos. Rodgers & Sons in Sheffield.

Just a magnificent food serving implement, and has been stated, a throw back to the past. Those handles.

Thanks guys. It’s so nice I use it every chance I get. I’ve had many gorgeous stag folders but the stag on the fork is as good as it gets.

I can see that. Gorgeous is an apt description, and great to see you're using it.

I have to be different and collect the sets I see at a thrift store. Maybe I'll see a knife.

It looks English to me.Not unusual for the fork to be unmarked;most of the sets I have do not have marked forks.Probably the fork blade was made by a company and sold sans handle to a company who installed their own handles to match the knife and steel.The same with the steel although they were usually marked with the maker's name but not the company that sold the sets.
You could probably find a knife with a similar handle to pair it up with.
Carving sets as said before don't really sell all that well for some reason. I personally like them and have several handled in stag;horn;mother of pearl and faux pearl as well. I think I did a post awhile back on carving sets.
