All About Pocket Knives

I was putting some oil on the joints of my old short line Camillus 11 Barlow, and it got me to thinking how much I love a Barlow, but hardly ever carry one. I'm gonna' change that, BTW. Anybody else have a pattern they love, but don't carry much?

My favorite to collect is whittlers. There are too many to show them all but here is a picture of the first one, bought new from the retailer. I’ve never carried one.

Ha! That's my next one, Ken. I really like the Seahorse Whittler, own a few, and never carry them. I do carry a Camillus 72 though.. That Case is smokin' BTW! The 83 is a classic!

I hear ya! Funny thing is I have about a half-dozen stockman knives, different Case and Schrade patterns, in the rotation that I carry. But I don’t collect them. Go figure.

For me it's the sodbuster. Feels great in the hand and pocket but I prefer having two or three blades on a knife.

Makes total sense, Revolver. Probably why I carry lots of stockmans also..

Love the Congress too, SSknives! I do find myself carrying a 1/2 Congress a good bit though..

I like the Cheetah pattern a lot. Slim, with a nice locking blade that will handle most anything but I hardly ever carry one. I will have to fix that in the next couple days. Good post!

I'd love to be able to carry my fixed blades.
Two things make it difficult:
1) I work in a school. The fact I even carry a pocket might be considered iffy. I use it with great discretion.
B) I live in a high population area. It would draw much unwanted attention.

I have a few trappers, but never use them as EDC knives.

Pen knives feel too undersized but I love carrying a peanut go figure

Put me down for Jumbo Sleeve Boards and Lock-back Whittlers. I like them too much to carry them, if I lost one I'd be undone.

All are great replies. I have a lot of the same thoughts as y'all do. Steve, I'm with you on the fixed blades. One day, I plan on living somewhere I can carry mine anytime. I think Doctors knives are great, but I'd be afraid I'd break the blade. Trappers in the woods, but not my EDC, but I do carry a Case 6207 with a pen blade. Thanks for the replies, everyone...

As a pattern, I do like scout/camping knives but never carry them and seldom use them as a desk knife.

For pocketknives I have always loved the look of a Congress and own a number of variations. I like looking at them, but don't like to carry one; feel oddly "upside down" in the pocket and hand to me. I am lukewarm towards Trappers and Canoes - I own them but virtually never carry them. I carry a Medium Stockman 85% of the time, and a Whittler, penknife, or jackknife the balance of the time. For hunting and fishing I use a lot of fixed blades and heavy lockbacks - I carry them in a belt sheath or in my hunting pack or tacklebox. OH

I'm right there with you QuickSteel. I have a bunch of Camping/Scout knives, never carry them but always one in my tackle box.

Old Hunter, We're on the exact same page with our carry habits, although I do carry a medium 1/2 Congress sometimes. I love
a good Case 6318 or my Camillus 72 whittler for EDC..

I love the traditional two blade belt pouch knife that Case, Queen and Ka-Bar named Folding Hunter but, truthfully, I haven't carried one in years. I have nostalgic memories of carrying my late 60s stag Case 5262CV working as a sailor and back packing but do not need its size around the yard and it lacks the blade I use most often, a sheep's foot. For hunting I prefer a fixed blade because they are easier to wipe clean. Since I never needed more than one and am not using them I suppose I could be accused of collecting them.

Consequently, I also like the tiny Case Pocket Hunter that is styled after Folding Hunters. I wish Case would make their 4" one hand opening single blade Mid-Folding Hunter, the *1265L, as a two blade slip joint. I think they'd sell more of them to members here than this year's "vault release", the Pocket Hunter.

For me, it started with fixed blades in my youth and on up to about the 90's. Had a few, probably not more than a half dozen. Then I discovered Doctor's Knives. Accumulated less than two dozen over several years and even carried one until I forgot to put it in my checked baggage and TSA got it. And then along came the Camillus 72 about the time I learned how to pronounce Camillus. I ran out of steam about the time I wasn't aware of any brand (clone) I don't have. I do carry one. It's a frankenknife that WhiteBuffalo58 (Rob) modified for me. I've dabbled with other patterns along the way but they just never caught on.

At some time I cabbaged on to the Case 07's (plus other brands) and they just won't let me go. Oh yeah and then there's the Camillus 14's that I have a tough time passing up when they're sitting there at a very reasonable price and the occasional medium jack that sings it's Siren song to me. Actually there are many others that catch my eye, usually because of price. I think after saying all of that, the bottom line is, I'm an unabashed generalist.

All that jibber jabber and it all boils down to answering the thread title with, the Mini-Trapper.

Love y'alls choices, Modern and Jerry. I'm not familiar with a Case 62 pattern, Modern. What kind is that? I like those folding hunters a lot.

Jerry, you know I love the 72 and the 07. They are two of my all time favorites.
