All About Pocket Knives

I did these two recently. One was a recover of German(I think) folder with some new horn covers, A nice old folder with a European vibe to it.



The other was a recover of an auto with shrinky dink covers on it Not sure if the owner realized how green the new covers would be! Before and after...

Great job on both! I'm partial to the horn on the Giessen, however.

I have the bottom knife in orange cell. I think the shrinking cell is part of the reason the action is so messed up on mine. In addition to a wobbly blade, the blade doesn't open all the way every now and then, and it's kinda weak. And, you used real pins, not the cheap roll pins Colonial used. Mine is marked "SHUR SNAP" but I have seen other brands.

The Giessen is a very nice pattern. The Swiss, German, and French brands did a bunch of them, and I've been looking for one. They did a lot in horn too.

Beautiful work on both Glenn (as always)! I really like the pattern in the horn on your first one. It looks like you finished the pivot pin heads the way I've seen them on some old German knives, without filing them flush and trying to make them disappear. That one looks like it has 3-blades from your pictures. Is the third blade a "marlin spike"?

I love the awl tool with the eye in it on that first knife. A VERY useful tool.
AND, it just plain looks COOL.

The masters touch on both of those.

That’s some nice looking horn! I think horn is under utilized in knife handles. The white streaked variety is alway nice looking.
Those green handles are a little bright for my taste but snazzy just the same.
I always enjoy seeing your mods!

Herb, The small blade is just a secondary blade. The long one is some type of needle.

Like those both; but, that shade of horn really complements an older blade with some patina!!!
