All About Pocket Knives

Can anyone give me any info on a LB1 Scharade. Thanks in advance. ftd

The LB-1 is really small, at just 2 1/4" closed. According to the research section here--produced 1981-1996. I would presume it was designed for use as a keychain knife, since it has a small hasp. Anything with a sub-2" blade in my opinion isn't really good for use as an EDC, and really should be considered more as a piece of jewellery that can be a backup cutting tool). The 3OT is a much more reasonable small EDC.

The Schrade (note that there is only one "a" in Schrade) LB-1 or LB1 was called the "Cub". It was "Uncle Henry's Littlest Bear Paw".

I like small knives so I have a few of these. This one with a Mac Tools etch has been my keychain for about three years now. Most often, I use it to cut tape to get into packages. It's shaving sharp. I don't pry things so I expect it will last indefinitely.

Schrade made them using all the same materials as their larger lockbacks. They are well crafted. The large pivot pin is the same Schrade+ stainless as the blade and as used in the larger lockback models. Rumor has it, Schrade stopped making these because the cost was the same as the larger LB5 etc. but customers expected to pay less because it was smaller. Eventually they became somewhat of a liability.

Good pics. The earlier examples had the two-line "Schrade+" over "U.S.A. LB-1" as yours does. Later ones had a three-line stamp with "Uncle Henry" added in cursive (as on the scrimshaw knife).

Here's one with all it's "bling". I sold it a while back.

Thanks blade collector. I didn’t know that.
I have a lb5 with the later stamp. I can’t figure Schrade out. When I retire I’ll have more time to study but I’ll be too broke to buy any.
