All About Pocket Knives

When my brother-in-law still owned his company, he bought a lot of tools from Snapon. The Snapon salesman used to give him complimentary Kershaw knives. He sent me this one. It has a two stage opening and closing mechanism. You push down on the lever at the back of the knive, the blade will start to open of close, when it has enough momentum, you release the lever and the opening and closing completes. Really not a one handed opener, as you have to steady the body with the hand not operating the lever. Very scary closing, you could loose a piece of finger it it got in the way. I have had this one for a few years and just found it again going through a box of knives I hadn't looked at in a while.

Totally and completely over engineered or what? And yes, it is an ugly one too.

I love ugly knives! Haven't seen that one before.Most of the "Pacific Rim" knives I see are butt ugly as well. Here is a hand made fixed blade I bought awhile back only because it was the ugliest thing I ever saw.I guess the maker's name is "Ruth"(don't know if that is a first or last name)but if I had made it I sure as hell wouldn't have put MY name on it.I guess someone had a chunk of 1/4 inch steel plate they didn't know what to do with so they tried to make a knife out of it.

Dan, that knife may be thought of as ugly but it is also just plain odd in the extreme.
Another reason why old Connecticut knives appeal to me.

Dan, that is an odd-looking knife. I don't believe that I have seen one before. Over-engineered, but still intriguing.

Knife7nut, that fixed-blade is an odd bird for sure. I don't think it is that ugly, but definitely ungainly. Is it as thisk and heavy as it looks in the pics? It looks like it could be used as a hatchet!

Yes-yes-and YES! As was said it is made of 1/4 inch thick steel;the grind is crude;the eyeball etch strange;the notch cut into the top of the blade stranger and the handles are slabs of wood about a half inch thick.Stamp says "Ruth 1990". No other info on the maker.I got it from a friend of mine who bought it for the same reason;he liked the ugliness!

I agree with you completely, Joe, old knives are much more appealing to me as well. Although, I don't have very many Connecticut ones.

I like oddities but not that odd. Reminds me of a Medford Knife & Tool FAKE I stupidly bought.
