Not fake, just broken. Schrade collectors beware!

Schrade's "American Legends" series were very nice stag handled knives in wall-displays.

One of these has been up for auction on ebay for a long time. I messaged the seller (mgsclothing) and told him the knife is missing it's shield and that's what was stopping me (and likely others) from bidding on it.

Seller said he would "look into it". A few weeks have passed and description still specifically mentions the shield that does not exist. I wouldn't buy anything from this guy. No price drop, no description change. He's trying to find a sucker he can steal money from.

"The handle is genuine stag that contains an oval insert on the right side that reads SCHRADE AMERICAN LEGENDS."

I just sent the seller a message asking where the shield was. I got a rather funny reply back rather quickly: "I just sent picture
Not sure if it missing or is that the way it suppose to be ??" ::rotflol::

That actually looks like some kind of shield is already there, but why is it all blacked out?

I think what you are seeing is black J-B Weld epoxy smeared inside the cavity. I thought the same thing at first but I think I was seeing what my brain expected to see rather than what was there.

I re-glued the shield on my Schrade 85th Anniversary whittler. I know from that experience that the glue Schrade used dried to a yellowish, almost clear colour. I'm convinced that is J-B Weld in the recess.
