I know I have posted this before, but let's see if I can get some answers

This is a Boker Congress, made I 'm sure in the 1980's era, but this shield is what gets me, the wood handles I think is a European Walnut, and the Tangs is of Solingen Germany. Please let me know if you have seen some like this!

That's a 5974 pattern. I have it's American made cousin in bone. Go to the "BOKER STUDIES" thread, you'll see a post by me called Boker Congress Patterns. Nice knife! A favorite with Boker folks. J.O'.

I don't have any real evidence of this, but I have long suspected your knife may have been repurposed from an unsold 1983 limited edition "American Storytellers" knife. Notice the resemblance to knife number two in this ad from 1983. Boker planned to make 8,000 sets.

As mentioned above I think this is an over run of the story tellers. Sometimes they intentionally made these at the same time and sometimes they had some left over after the run was done.
Here is a pic of one I have

Now to think I have a unusual knife with a different Shield and a "rosewood" handle

It could be a good thing?

It would be one that was made after 1986. The rights to "Tree Brand" was exclusive to Boker USA, until they went defunct and it was then reacquired by Boker in Solingen. I have a similar pattern which is 5464 and with the same shield in stag. I think mine was from the early 90s.

Sorry, wasn't looking at your length measurement. MY 5974 frame is a tad over 4 inches. Yours is a shorter version,

J.O'.
