Camillus 40

Found this little half congress Camillus last week before Christmas in an antique store. A little case paste on a cloth ans she cleaned right up. Very tight little knife and still has good snap. No half stops. I'm thinking from the 60's or 70's? Anyone know for sure?

Thanks for looking!

Compare your tang stamp to one of these.

Thanks for pointing me to that. It looks as though it is between 1960 and the late 70's according to your chart. All caps, not italics, no dots between U, S and A and a long line under CAMILLUS.

I really like how thin this one is and how it took a nice edge really quick. In the pocket she goes! ::tu::

Nice! These pop up for decent prices all the time--still don't know why I don't have one yet. The crimped bolsters, the slim profile, the fact that blades aren't duplicated. The Half Congress doesn't get nearly the amount of love it should. Seems the less practical full Congress, and even those with 6 or more blades seem to get collector interest more. And I own two Boker ('50s bone, '90s Delrin), one Boker Plus (China-made), and a Case 6488.

Yes I agree. I have a couple of medium congress Case and they are a bit thick in my opinion for all day carry. Case's half congress 052 pattern is about the same length as this 40 pattern Camillus but seems thicker to me although I haven't actually measured. I really dig the bolsters on this Camillus. Pinched, crimped, rat tailed or whatever the proper term is for these I just think they are cool as heck. I do wonder about the handle material? It looks and feels like the rough black that case used back in the day but not sure if that's it or not. Whatever it is, I think it's very attractive and it seems durable. For $16 I am pleased with it.

If you have one of these, I'd love to see it posted here. Thanks!

I have a tiny Boker Congress that I carry on Sundays. It is all worn out, but belonged to my Father in Law, so it is priceless to me.
You are right, a larger 4-blade Congress pattern is a bit heavy in the pocket.
I think you got good deal on a great knife!
