All About Pocket Knives

A neighbor brought a 2 week old (to him) China made "Schrade" Old Timer over to me last weekend.

The main blade was broken in two about half way.
He said he dropped it and when it hit, the blade broke.
When he ask me why it broke I told him, "Do you see "USA" anywhere on that knife.
The answer of course was no.
.
Then, I got to thinking about the situation a little. For a blade to break like that, it was just plain too hard. NO WONDER they will hold a sharp edge longer than older knives.

I am sure some of y'all like chi-nee made knives.... I'm just not on of 'em.
I could have ranted longer BUT, I have to get to work.

From ads and posts here I've learned that Chinese Schrades have been made with at least 4 different stainless steels and D2. I'm curious which steel his Old Timer was advertised as having. The blade that broke could have missed its tempering treatment or been one of the very high carbon steels or both. When steels with carbon content as high as files and milling machine cutters are used to make knives hold an edge longer you have to expect them to snap when the ignorant use them for pry bars but breaking when dropped?
