All About Pocket Knives

I bought this knife that is adorned with an Atlanta Braves theme. IMO it would be much better without the etch on the blades. What can you use w/o tarnishing the mirror finish on the blades to remove the etch? I know Blaster makes a sticker remover that I suspect would work? Afraid to try and use a razor blade and get it all scratched up. Maybe soak it in something and then use a razor blade? Thoughts, ideas, or suggestions?

That's from the Braves 1 World Series win, I bet a fan might like to trade with you. Looks like it's numbered too. Was it boxed as well?

It may have had a box at one time but I don't have it.

That's not something that can be removed with Goo-B-Gone or some such product and you be left with a shiny undamaged surface. Etching goes below the surface, maybe by only a thousandth or two but if you try to remove it, no matter what method you use, it's going to leave a mark. Just leave it, JMO

If you're not a fan of the Braves put it up for auction, but don't try to remove anything from the blades. JMO

Normally I'd agree with you 100% but that's not what this is at all. It is some type of decal or overlay that is on the surface of the blade and not at all into the metal. I wonder if after the World Series Case had x number of this pattern lying around that were unsold and decided to make a run of these late in the year? Not at all like a typical blade etch and that's what made me think it could easily be removed. I am afraid it might leave a shadow but it is already scratched as you can see.

Use an old credit card to scrape off as much of the label as possible.
Apply a water displacement product (e.g. spray lubricant) to a dry cloth and rub away until all the gooey residue has gone.
Warm the metal surface with a hairdryer and the residue may simply wipe away with a cloth.

I have one of those knives with the same bone and shield but it does not have the sports team decals. They are an odd duck. Adding a single copping blade to a knife that already had a sheep's foot hardly justified adding a back spring but, what the heck, collectors like the impractical odd ducks that did not sell well. They certainly are not the most common 47 variation. I suspect the decals were not added by Case.

I'd start with acetone or fingernail polish remover. I'm sure neither would affect the stainless steel's polish. I do not think paint remover would dull the polish any but I'd test it on another piece of stainless to be sure.

If you are positive it was a sticker, most likely the adhesive would have been oil soluble. What I would do is
soak the surface (let it drip off) with a household vegetable oil ( eg Crisco). After leaving it on for 10-15 min
then heat the blade with a hair dryer ( or low setting plumbers heat gun). You may have to leave it over night
( I know you would be in a hurry to see the results but overnight would really do it good). Then try scraping it
off with your fingernail or the plastic square clip you sometimes get with a loaf of bread. This scraping should
not ruin the surface, but it may be very slightly scratch and dull the surface which you can buff out. Avoid using a razor
blade or other hard objects.

If the above does not work acetone (finger nail polish) or rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol you buy at the
drugstore ) could be tried in place of the vegetable oil. Be extra careful with the hair dryer or heat gun
since these liquids are flammable. Leaving overnight here would not do much good.

This came right off. Used Blaster Decal & Sticker Remover. Wrapped in paper towel and soaked for about an hour. Scraped with thumb nail & credit card corner. Has some light streaks. Nothing serious and no shadows. I'll polish with Renn wax in a few days. Smells like lemons. I'm cleaning with Dawn and will post some pics in a day or two. Thanks for the comments.
