If that really is USA made, it is Case making them. That knife is different from the usual 54 trapper, but Case has made them with that tooling for the Case Select line.

AG Russell owns the Cattaraugus trademark, so Case has to pay them to use it. At least that is what I was told in 2008 by Case marketing.

The SMKW catalog says "'CATTARAUGUS' AND 'CATTARAUGUS CUTLERY Co.' are trademarks of Jessup & Associates, Inc." Appears to be a holding company.

In my opinion, these are somewhat overly embellished. For what's being offered, not too expensive. I'd rather have an original Cattaraugus in good shape (my current one isn't that much of a looker--it's a user/filler; short worn blades and patched bone); and for the $100 range these are in, I can do so.

Ed Jessup, in addition to owning Jessup & Associates, is a high level sales manager for W R Case & Sons Cutlery. Figuring out how the two roles do not result in a conflict of interest is above my pay grade.

I agree, overly decorated. Especially on a trapper. I wish they had taken a more of an approach like Queen did with Schatt and Morgan and Robeson. But lasers, ink jets and pad printers are cheaper than tooling and jigging. They’re not for me.

Different strokes for different folks. While I agree for my personal taste they are too embellished, there are folks on the Case Collectors Club forum who can’t get enough of embellished knives. You see a lot of them posted there. The OP knife is actually pretty tame compared to some.

That is actually a decent looking knife-- if it said "Case" on it.. I agree with Cody-- I'd much rather put my $ into an original Cattaraugus in decent shape. JMO

If it's not stamped U.S.A.I would be skeptical of country of origin.

Is there any tang stamp at all or just etching?
