Does anyone here have an 879 ?
Note the shield has the Henckels Twins logo so Henckels must have order a run of these for sale in Europe ?
I wonder if the frame is the same as the 8OT and the rounded bolsters add 1/32" at either end ?
If you have a Schrade or Schrade-Walden 879 please post a picture of it.

Hi Roland, I have the pattern number for this knife as 8813 in my notes and I have included catalog image. The knife is marked Schrade Walden NY and the catalog image is from the Schrade Cut Co era which I believe explains the difference in jigging between the catalog image and my knife. It certainly resembles the knife you are asking about. This one of my EDC knives. It is easy to open, stays sharp, has no blade rub, and is a joy to use. Schrade made very fine knives.

Thank you 'Ralph'. The Schrade Cut. Co. 8813 became the 881 pattern number for Schrade-Walden and Schrade. It is the same knife as the 8OT.
Yours is an early Schrade-Walden with the jigged bone handles. By 1961 bone was dropped and Delrin was used for handles.
It does look like the same pattern & set up as my 879. I think "879" might have been the number used for this pattern when exported to Europe ?
Surely one of the Schrade collectors here has an example of this 879 marked knife ? Mine cannot be the only one in North America ??
I hope the dedicated Schrade collectors will chime in to help solve this mystery.

Roland the 879 shows up in the 1962 catalog although it was available before then. It's identical to the 881 with the exception of the rounded bolsters. The 880 (kon-Kav), 879, and 881 are all listed as 4" premium stock knives with basically the same blades. Of course the 880 has that saber ground clip rather than the flat ground found on the other two knives.

The 879 is a Schrade Walden iteration of the 8803 marketed in the Schrade CutCo days. I have one of those early ones, and I also have an 879 Schrade Walden with celluloid handles.

Thank you Eric & Calvin. So the 879 is basically an 881 with round bolsters. It seems a bit odd that the 879 is rarely seen now but there are quite a few 881. I like the round bolsters and if i had a choice back in the Schrade-Walden days i would of selected the 879 over the 881.
Why this one has a Henckels shield is a bit of a mystery.

I searched an 879 for the duration of my eBay days, never scored one, and rarely saw one offered. Never a minty one to bid on. Usually a search would bring up a 897UH.

I have an 879 but only have old and not so good pictures of it. I think I also have the same pattern but with a pen instead of a spey somewhere. Both are waldens. It’s a great pattern.

It is a great pattern but for some reason not a great many were made. Most of the Schrade full size stockman have the square bolsters like the 881 or 8OT. Odd that the 879 never caught on with knife buyers.
