Some out of cottonwood bark.
The one is a practice piece for doing a female face, which I always find a lot more difficult than a male face. (Am I allowed to use those terms these days?)

Hopefully, y'all can detect the difference.

(There are people who have trouble with this these days.)

Well, I must have hit the wrong button somehow, and lost what I was trying to post.
Tying again.
A friend decided that he wanted to create a Biblical scene in his yard. Specifically the one recorded in Exodus 17:6, where God told Moses to strike the rock and water would come out.
The friend set about drilling a hole in a rock, and I got a piece of aspen that had thoughtfully been provided by some local beavers, and began whacking away at it with mallet and gouges, to produce Moses.
Here he is, almost 2 ft. tall, ready for installation with the fountain.

Do you use power to carve,or just to rough out and then gouges to detail in?
