Am I correct that the image the "microscope" sees is on your PC screen?

Yes , very much so .
Plug into the USB port on your ? PC / Phone / Laptop ..
Then you need software to View the device ..
VLC or other Video software capable of recording / viewing from a device ( camera )
I use videopad , as it is better than VLC ( Video editing software ) VLC lags something terrible .
Now I just need to get the lighting and magnification and focus right .
