Not being a hard core Case guy myself, can you tell me what red flags this raises for you? It looks good, the hafting looks okay. Maybe not a real tight fit against the bolsters, but at a glance it appeared like 'real' knife to me.
I'll take all the education I can get and especially at that price point!

Also it is a newer shield, the oldest it could be is 1965-69, maybe newer. Stamps look cold, nothing about the knife looks right.

Different handle covers, but otherwise the same pattern, same differences between Kutmaster and Case blades. As Tom has pointed out already, the shield on the OP knife is also wrong. The flat top “S” shield was not used during the Tested era.

Below are some of the seller’s pictures. Note in the picture below of the back side of the spey blade, the grind line at the tang shoulder extends all the way across the blade, as it should. Note on the stamped side of the same blade, the grind line does not extend all the way across. This is often a sign the blade has been ground (shaved) down, so it could be re-stamped. This is sometimes difficult to tell whether a blade has been shaved, as on some blades it’s not obvious whether the grind line is original and just “lighter” near the blade spine. It’s not the first thing to look for, but rather something to look at if there are other suspicious elements. In this case the spay blade shape and the incorrect shield are the first red flags and sufficient to rule the knife a fake.
Sheepsfoot blade has the same shaved down, re-stamped tang. You can also see the same tell-tale grinding of the tang on the master blade. Ken

The Case/Tested stamping looks deep with well defined letters. I cannot see rolled or raised edges.
What features of this stamping suggest cold stamping ? The evidence of shaved down tang means it must have been cold stamped, but are there features in the stamping that suggest 'cold' ?

The shaved tangs make sense to me. As does the grind information. Thank you very much for education.
