Blade HQ credit card data breach

Not sure if this is the best place for this or not, but as I’ve been trying to figure out how scammers got my credit card info and racked up some charges...I just got an email notice from BladeHQ.
It’s states in part:
What happened?
An unknown, unauthorized intruder or intruders appears to have gained access to our hosted website servers and uploaded malware to our website www.bladehq.com, potentially gaining the capacity to “skim” customer transaction data as it was being entered by the customers purchasing or attempting to purchase our merchandise. Our investigation indicates that the intruders may have had this “skimming” capability from January 7, 2021 through March 22, 2021 and on April 11, 2021. The attackers may have gained access to customer transaction information if the customer entered new or updated information at the site during that time. Because you entered or changed your card information or personal information at bladehq.com during the suspected period of intrusion, we are notifying you about this security incident.
The definitely got mine...so if you made an order in the timeframe IDd it might be wise to at least check over your statements.
In my case they did a small “test” transactions, then ordered a pair of shoes and had them sent to me (part of some scam to make the other charges appear legit, I assume), and then racked up over $600 at some camera store in NYC.
It would also be prudent if you meet the criteria from BladeHQ to double check any packages you receive prior to opening them. If you get something you did not order, mark it refused prior to opening and send it back on their dime. If not, the tracking “delivery” can make it look like you made the order.
There’s a scammer around every corner these days.

Sad but true. I hate those

!
I hope you're able to get everything worked out. I've yet to order anything from BladeHQ, and until they get that issue resolved, it'll stay that way.

Thanks for the heads up. I’ve been looking at a knife at BladeHQ but I haven’t pulled the trigger yet.
My credit card offers what they call a “Virtual Account Number”. It generates a one time account number to use for a single transaction and it expires immediately after that transaction is made.
The hackers can’t use it because it’s expired and they don’t see my actual account information. It requires a couple of extra steps but it’s a piece of added security for those who wish to use it.
I assume that most cc companies offer that feature but I don’t know that for a fact.

You should be safe according to the quoted email in the original post but you might consider reviewing your cc transactions to see if there's any charges on there that you didn't initiate.

March 29th falls between January 7, and April 11 of this year so I would check your statements carefully.

You would be outside their specified dates, but I would keep an eye on it.

All of them should. I'll look into whether my bank does.

Many years ago, I was sent a phony Case pocket that was atrocious. Ebay told me that there was nothing they could do. GOOD-BYE Ebay.

Mine was actually a bank card, not a credit card. But processed as Visa transactions.
The bank has been no problem, but another transaction did manage to slip through after their inquiry and new card issue.

I have purchased from them but not this year, luckily. Didn't get an email so I guess I'm in the clear, no bogus transactions according to my online banking either.
Sorry to read this, CamMan21.

I agree about continuing to do business...I honestly don't fault them, John. There's so many damn scammers trying to steal from every angle these days. It could happen anywhere.
