The front has a red tint holster to bolster but it’s not a deep red but also not your normal stag color an the back has more of your natural stag colors but deeper red in spots. In person it’s more reddish if you have looked at a lot of normal stag.

Beautiful knife. I have one (not the same pattern) with stag that looks like that. Not what I’d call red stag. JMO

Thanks Ken what is your opinion on red stag?

I just didn’t know if it was as simple as regular stag an stag that is red or not. Most I see has no red at all. An the new stuff is dyed.

Depends on your definition of “red stag”. There is red stag from the red stag deer, which is not as red as the dyed stag seen on some knives. Most of the really red “red stag” even in older knives has been dyed.

I call it beautiful regardless of the label on th stag!

Got ya I just find it so confusing because even when the company case tries to replicate their own version of red stag from their older knives they do it just like this

Whatever sells. eBay sellers have pretty much ruined the terms collectors have used to describe different colors of bone and stag. Whether intentionally or out of ignorance, sellers there will say just about anything in the descriptions, trying to catch a “keyword search” by a prospective buyer. Case has followed suit, using terms that have come into use amongst internet buyers. JMO. Caveat emptor.

Thanks Ken I really appreciate your input I think I understand now.

I have read that during the CASE TESTED XX and CASE XX eras, Red Stag was often a coincidence. For example I have a CASE XX Peanut with very reddish looking Stag on the mark side, but the pile side has a normal Stag hue. So, there may not have necessarily been an effort to put "Red Stag" on a knife during that time frame. Steve Pfeiffer does state that Case may have dyed some Red Stag knives during that era, however. Beginning in the 1990's, Case definitely dyed Stag to make it Red Stag.

And, later, there was Green Stag, and even Blue Stag, but those colors did not experience the same level of acceptance. I think both were only done for a year or two.

Not red stag.

FWIW for reference here are a couple I have with stag similar to the OP knife. Although both have some “reddish” tones I’ve never considered either to be “red stag”.

Goooooooooorgeous knife for sure, looks reddish to me. Wow, what a looker and one of my favorite Case patterns. Love that one and feel free to show it off anytime. And any others you might have in that vein. Wow. Wellllllllcome to the club.
