That’s a beauty!

No doubt Case selected some of the best looking knives for display boards. Who would put ugly ones on them? I didn’t start paying much attention to knives until the latter 1960s but at that time I found plenty of great looking knives in dealers stock. For sure not all of the inventory looked as good as the display knives, but there were plenty that did and some that were better, at least in my opinion.

During the 60s and 70s Case couldn’t keep up with demand. Dealers placed orders and (at least based on what they consistently told me) they didn’t know when their orders would be filled. Often I would visit dealers whose Case stocks were very low and they didn’t know when they would receive a shipment, nor what would be in it. It was common for orders to be only partially filled, with the remainder back ordered. Stag was typically scarce, always a premium handle material, and was priced accordingly. Some dealers sold what stags they had off the display boards, believing they would never get any replenishment inventory. Sometimes they were right.
