Boy does that bring back memories. Worked in the Wayne Co. Jail for 10 years and boy when the saps and slap jacks came out, someone was going to get some whoop ass. They also used sap gloves with thick padded finger and thumbs stuffed with sand.

my dad carried one as a cop in the early sixties, fort worth was still a bit of a wild west town then. no, i was never on the wrong end of one! his sam browne belt was deadly enough!

My dad was a cop too, however I never got Sam-Browne'd. I'd definitely remember. Talk about swift and severe justice, geez!

He was probably a bit too young to have a sap. That's old-school cop right there. I seem to recall that the 4-D Maglite was the weapon of choice in the 80's.

He had a sign on his wall that stated: "As a cop gets older, his flashlight gets smaller and his gun gets bigger." Makes sense, since his progression went from .38/Maglight to .45/Surefire.

eBay has some really messed-up policies. I wouldn't deal with them if there was an alterrnative. I already won't use PayPal due to their policies regarding firearms.

My father in law was a Sheriff's deputy. I found several Black Jacks around the garage and a hidden stash of old Playboys. My mother in law got pissed and threw the magazines in the trash. I wish I had some of those 60's and 70's Playboys to sell including the one that celebrated America's 200th birthday.

Man, those sell real well, once I'm done looking at the pic - er*uh the articles.

I remember a friend of mine back east(who had a class III license)had one of the neatest ones I've ever seen.Tried to buy it from him but he wouldn't sell.Obvious reason:he probably would have lost his ticket if he had.

Looked to be a wooden billy about 12" long at first glance.Then you noticed the rather large hole in the top and the trigger near the handle.Designed to hold and fire one tear gas shell which coincidentally happened to be the same size as a 12 ga.shotgun shell. I never fired it but he had(once)and it was VERY potent!

Supposedly used back in the 30's and 40's by prison guards as a riot deterrent.Would have hated to been on the receiving end of that one!
