All About Pocket Knives

A few years ago I decided for some unknown reason I needed to collect case pocket knives. I have been a Winchester lever gun collector for years and always carried a Case knife. Well the years have slipped by and I know need to sell this realtibely small collection but I have no idea what I paid for the knives. Most I still have the boxes, never used knives but I have no idea what is the best way to sell them. I have tried gun shows sold very few of them. I have odds and ends of other than case knives, most made in the US and one Tom Ray Sun fish.

Ebay is a good barometer of what knives will sell for, but you will have to do a search on each one individually, using the advanced search, completed auctions feature.

As Herb said the best source for current values is an advanced search of eBay sold listings. Since you have the boxes for most of them that should make your search easier, as the boxes provide everything you should need for keywords to search for - pattern number, handle material/color, and year made. For most Case patterns having boxes (post-1980 knives) there is little if any difference in value over a range of plus/minus 5 years or so.

I think you need to first decide what your top priority is. Do you wish to get every penny you can out of these knives ? Or is it more important to get them sold quickly with as little hassle as possible. If top dollar is your objective, you'll need to do research on each knife and determine its value before posting it for sale online, then you'll need to photograph, list, sell and ship each knife. If you're more interested in unloading this collection quick and easy, perhaps you should consider selling the entire collection to a knife dealer who will then try to resell them at a profit.

Ebay previous sales are the best indicator of current value I know of. If you decide to sell to a dealer please realize they can't pay you full retail price and make a profit for themselves.

If you are selling CASE knives, there is a CASE subforum here where you can learn more and post more. Also know that CASE knives with a 1970 tang stamp (and earlier to some degree) command a premium.

I'll second this - go on eBay and search "completed auctions" on the left collumn - you can search what your exact knives are worth - ebay is the best barometer for what realistic knife value is.
