Case 64047P With 3 Blades ????

At the risk of making a fool of myself again (not the first time, and won't be the last), I have to ask for opinions about this knife. I've wanted a 4-blade pattern 47 for a long time, and just saw this one, ostensibly just missing one blade (the punch). I asked the seller questions about the "missing blade", was the broken blade still attached or had it been removed completely, etc. The enormously detailed reply I got back is "Blade is gone." Honestly, I wouldn't mind taking this one on as a repair project, and hopefully I would be able to hunt down a suitable replacement punch. The pattern stamp on the clip is clearly 64047P. But, my concern is this - looking at the last picture from the back, it appears that the spring the clip rides on is curved around at the other end, which is a normal spring for a single or 3 blade knife. Assuming from the pictures that this is the type of curved end spring I think it is, how could this knife just be missing one of the blades? (I think I would have to replace or modify that spring in addition to finding the right punch.)

That looks like a 63047 with a blade from a 64047 installed to replace the original main blade. The 64047 has the blades in a different configuration - clip and pen at the main blade end, spay on the bottom in front and punch on the bottom in back.

Thanks Steve! I thought something else was a bit odd about the appearance of the knife, but couldn't put my finger on it. All of the pictures of 64047 knives I have looked at this morning have the pen next to the clip. This one is a true Frankenknife. ::teary_eyes::

About 50 % of the time when I ask a eBay seller a question I get no response
or the response I get is short and does not really answer the
specific question. ::dang::

Yeah, that spring isn't going to accommodate another blade/punch. Good eyes, Herb. ::nod::

Here's the way it should look.

Yes the 64047 would have two double-end springs, the 63047 has one double-end and one single-end spring.

In doing so I believe they are actually telling everything you (or I) need to know - which is, keep looking.

This does not help with the improper blade configuration, but that might be a double-ended spring. I could be wrong (probably am!), but either I see a line where the broken blade sits, or bad optics that look like one.

I wonder if, after the punch blade broke, someone worked it into the open position, then ground the tang down even with the bolster.
I have seen that once on a knife, and have considered that on some cheap EDC's before.

I cannot tell for sure from the picture - it is just a theory.

Reverand, I think that's just some tarnish/discoloration. If you go to the actual auction and "hover" your cursor over that picture so that it expands, you can see the curved end of the spring much clearer. And, before I received opinions from our experts here, I asked the seller for a picture from the top (the opposite of the last picture, from the back), and of course he didn't respond. I'm positive now that he knows enough to realize that there is no way this knife would accommodate 4 blades. I just wonder what he thinks will happen when someone wins that auction and wants to replace the "missing punch"? ::teary_eyes::
