Help with cleaning and restoring knife

I have a fixed blade hunting knife that I bought at a yard sale. I am not much on fixed blades, however this one caught my eye because of the stag handles. It is a little rusty and looks like there is some blood stains on it. The lady that had it said that it was her ex's and that they had gotten a divorce and she was selling all his stuff. She also said that he was a deer hunter. I will try to post a pic as soon as possible. I cannot make out the name on the tang but it has solingen germany on the maid side and the number 461 on the other side. I believe that it can be restored to it's natural beauty. I need advice as to how to clean and polish it up. Help will be appreciated. Thanks, Keith

hope it isnt her husbands blood on the knife

it sounds like an interesting knife. this forum has alot of great tips and advice for cleaning/restoring. my previous post.....new life in an old scout, tells how i cleaned one that was in rough shape to begin with and alot of members shared some of their great techniques and info as well in that thread and there are several other threads here that will probably help you decide which way to proceed. look forward to seeing the knife.
