Anyone try this for customizing white polymer handled knives? It's a new one on me, would love to see your art work.

Rit dye I believe will only work on cloth. I don't think that it will work on plastics or bone, Maaaabe on micarta. Just my 2 centz. ftd

I know people use it on bone, but if you do use it be careful and take your time, and tape up your knife, by all reports very, very messy, so prepare your work area well. Maybe you could test it on something similar, you only get one chance at it, and the longer you leave the knife it in the solution the darker it will get. If you are intent on dyeing the scales, have a look on Youtube at using leather dye, less messy, and you have more control. Good luck.

I posted this claim being sceptical that it was possible. These comments back my thoughts on this actually working. But if someone actually did it I was hoping to see their results. Thanks for your replies.

I am buying a bunch of Dexters here pretty soon, and since I am carrying them on my belt as woods and working knives (butcher for outdoors; net knife around the farm) I plan to dye their "NSF Certified" white sanitary handles to orange or red. I've been using my net knife as a "hay cutter" and I'm afraid I'll lose the darn thing in the snow.
My current net knife's handles slightly yellowed from being in a toolbox for about a year, and I am going to try beet juice on it. That stuff tends to stick to stuff and not come off, and historically, it has been used as a dye.

Well, according to KnifeCenter, here's how you do it. Works on G-10 and other polymers like nylon and Micarta. Mystery solved.
