I may be completely off base BUT I believe someone has taken some liberties with this one.
I see a MB with a wrong tang stamp and that implies a fake Blade etch.
It is said to be a 1502 but based on the scale of the frame and the can opener it looks like a 1503.

Am I missing something because it's bidding is active?

It’s pre-1926 for sure - that’s when they went to a short pull, long SD & 3-piece CO - I believe it’s a BSA #1502 otherwise known as Ulster #47553L5. I’ve had non BSA Ulster scouts with that stamp before but never on an official BSA. Only a 4-year run for this model (1502), variations are possible but in many decades of collecting BSA knives I’ve never seen this stamp.

“600 Scout Knives” says Ulster used the script tang stamp until 1941 so it’s possible the knife in question could be a variation with this not commonly seen tang stamp.

I’m sure the end of auction action on this one will be exciting to watch I’ll be a spectator only

I agree with Tom that it is within the realm of possible, based on historical variations and oddities with BSA knives. I suppose it is also possible that somebody tinkered but if that is the case, I cannot tell that the knife was ever taken apart based on the pictures.

Looks like a pretty rare version. Never seen an Official Ulster Scout with that stamp before. WIll be interesting for sure.

Stamp is rare but correct , I own a few .

I was sure something was wrong But the facts do indeed prove me wrong that the knife could be legit!
This has been another example that I have a lot to learn about official scout knives.
As a spectator it will be interesting to see how much this will go for

That blade etch is killer. That knife should bring big bucks.

I think it is an eBay price with a few bidders excited about the tang stamp. I was one of them but this thread may have been my undoing. Without the tang stamp, 200-250 would have been high retail.

IMO I think 461.00 was a good deal for a pre 1926 model with a strong blade etch , the rare tang stamp was a plus .

I’m sure the extra attention from this thread helped with the ending price or my pictures of an actual example of the stamp .

Mike, you may be correct because it was your examples that convinced me.
If nothing else I am glad I can say that I have seen a rare Official Scout Ulster that I did not know exists.

totally agree - plus it’s going to a new home where preservation and presentation are paramount - you might even get to handle this one if you attend the Gator Show in Florida this coming January

David , Ulster made a bunch of different variations or very short runs of official scouts , girls and boys .
Would be fun to have a thread dedicated to them .
