All About Pocket Knives

Here is a Honk Falls Knife Co. Napanoch NY USA. JEN-SAL stamped on metal handle, 2 9/16" long closed. The master blade is well worn. This tang stamp is rare in my area. I was wanting to know if this is indeed a rare tang stamp. This old knife is not of much value, but it is my first Honk Falls. Also I could not see the NY on the stamp but I think it is hidden by the handle. What do you think!

Honk falls only lasted nine or ten years.Closed in 1929.some Napanoch employees in the old Napanoch building.This is just from memory,so it may not be exact. I believe they are rare. Hope this helps.

Nice score! Honk Falls knives are rare in ANY condition.I've been collecting knives for fifty plus years and have never even SEEN one up close.

I got my first knife when I was 10(still have it)and I just turned 64 last Friday.My collection is pretty diverse and my latest thing is collecting unusual knives.Don't have to be valuable;in fact most unusual ones aren't.
Some of my favorites are letter opener/knives and mechanical pencils with knife blades in the end.Bar tools and tool kit knives are also a favorite.

I went through phases collecting automatics in high school and then moving on to ivory handled knives;then pearls and stags and miniatures.My oldest is a 17th century ivory handled jambiya in absolutely incredible shape.Have a few 19th century bowie/hunters;one in pristine condition.

The only thing I don't collect is military knives.Too many fakes around.I have a few including an SA dagger a co-worker gave me years ago.His dad brought it home from WWII as a souvenir.

I've managed to get some really good deals over the years by studying everything I could about knives.My reference library encompasses two book cases now.You can NEVER have too many reference books.

If you check out some other posts here,you'll see some of them.I also host a couple of Yahoo groups;one called Knife Knuts Aknonymous and the other Vintage Letter Openers.A lot of my knives are posted there.

K7K, I like some of the same stuff. I have a couple Napanoch tool knives, a NYKC tool knife. I like knives that are unusual also and like you said many times they are not to valuable.

Your knife is a Honk and they are highly sought. Here are a couple with tangs for reference. This pattern Nutter was also made by Nap. LT PS Naps and Honks are for the most part pretty close since after nap closed most of the Employees moved to Walden Knife and then Ct ( since Winchester bought them)one disgruntled exemployee got fed up bought some of the old machinery and began making them in his garage and the old factory. There is quite a historic liniage here and these were not the only companies involved in it.
