Pennife With Friodour Blades

This Henckels is hard to find in minty condition. A gentleman's penknife, it is beautifully machined in all stainless steel. On the tang and on the box is the word Friodour, also spelled friodur. This means the knife has received Henckels patented triple ice-hardened blades. This knife would have been made directly by Henckels before contracting with Boker. My photos are inadequate but I find this knife very striking in hand.

Very fine Gent's pen knife Bob. I think i still have a few similar Henckels.
Henckels patented the Friodur process in 1937.

Nice! I feel these little stainless penknives are very underappreciated.

I am curious--how is ice-hardening different from modern "Cryogenic" heat treats some of the state-of-the-art high-end steels require?

Joe, Randy, and Cody, thank you all for your comments.

Cody, I have no knowledge of what makes the Henckels process unique. If it is a proprietary process they are unlikely to describe it since I believe they still use it on their line of kitchen cutlery.

kj, is Bob a friend who also collects Henckels? And could I trouble you to show a few photos of some of your Henckels?
