Should I fit the scale exactly to the knife before I epoxy? i.e. everything except the final polishing?
tks

Rockoteer,
This is the way I do it. I Usually fit the scale length wise between the bolsters then super glue to bolsters. Then I belt sand to fit. After that I drill out the bolsters for the pins. Then run the fitted scale up to the disc sander and sand down to bolster height. Then I pin the scale.
There are more people on this site that know a lot more than me but I am offering my help.

Also welcome to AAPK. ::handshake::

Regards
Nev

I'm sure there are many ways to do this. I prefer to cut and haft the scales pretty much to a perfect fit, clean and sand the inside of the scales and the outside of the metal liners perfectly so the epoxy will grab on really well, then epoxy the scales on, wait for the epoxy to set hard, then finish sanding, then pin the scales, then reassemble the knife. Just my preferred system. :D

I always leave them a little oversize and power sand down to flush after the epoxy has set and they are pinned. If you fit them exactly and then glue them on, sometimes things will shift and misalign. Just the way I do it.

That’s the way I do it as well.
