Did I get a faked knife ?

I don't see anything about this knife that would suggest it's a fake but the stamp worries me...
I was getting ready to put it up on the Bay & thought I had better ask first.
Any thoughts ?

The handle scales look to me like they might be delrin, but I'm not totally sure, mainly because the tang stamp looks like the "short line" stamp that was used from 1946-1950. I'll be interested to see what the experts have to say.

It is an early 70's India Stag (styled Delrin) Pattern 89
It came to me as NOS in the box.
There is still a bit factory grease on the knife.
Everything looks as new to my eye.
But that stamp ???

I have read that the 89 was not produced for a long time & re-introduced in 1972.
My best guess is this knife was made in 72 with an old leftover blade.
Maybe ?

Covers look like Delrin to me, look like “Stagalon”. But assuming the 1946-50 date Herb gave for the stamp is correct they can’t be Delrin (or they’re not original to the knife). Need advice from a Camillus expert!

Edit - sorry, looks like I was typing my post when you made your second post. IIRC Camillus called it “Indian Stag” (Indian, with an “n”, not India) which is Delrin imitation stag.

You are exactly correct. I am "N" deficient on this one.

I think it was Tom Williams who worked at Camillus who said they never threw away the dies used for tang stamps. iirc they would occasionally grab an older stamp and use it for full run. That could be the case with this knife. I have a 23 pattern with the short line stamp that believe is from the 70s. But I need to take a closer look to be sure.

Nothing wrong with the knife . Like Randy stated Camillus did use that stamp beyond 1950 . There’s a MK 1 short line posted in the Camillus section from 1958/59 . The Indian Stag was Delrin ,well done jigging . There’s a whole set of those IIRC ? Vit would know probably right away .
Have seen some Hunters with the same etch and stamp . Same “ Indian Stag “ covers . Check out the Camillus Catalog Section .

I bet you are correct. That sounds awfully Camillus.

No fake... they exist, I have this short line India Stag in my collection
