Here's a little bird&trout I just finished. 52100 blade, copper ferrule and a beautiful piece of tambootie. Not only is the wood nice, it has a great smell when its worked.

Most EXCELLENT! I have begun to favor Bird and Trout knives for all around everyday use and the way they look. I really like that ferrule, must be my Finnish roots.

Just under 8 1/2".
Blade is 4 5/16" and the handle/bolster is 4 3/8".

I too, like that ferrule idea - much prefer it to a finger groove (which a lotta makers put on the B&T).

Is that 52100 blade forged, or stock removal ?

Thanks Morten. Saned to a 1500 grit finish, cracacks filled with superglue. Then buffed with pink no-scratch.

Nice looking sheath! I keep forgetting what they call that -- a Sam Brown Stud?

Anyway, looks good! I like making sheaths, but I just can't seem to make them for others, just my knives. I like working with leather, BUT just for the blades I make.

Thanks, Hukk. Yes, that's a SamBrown stud. I buy them by the dozen at Tandy. They are pretty versatile.

Hey Bruce,

Not a criticism, but just a random thought -- what if you enlarge the notch at the ricasso, and sharpen it, to make a bone cutter ? It'd make removing the knees and elbows a lot easier, on things like duck, quail and rabbit.

That's an idea, JR. This blade is a lil small for that tho.
Here's anothe r... I have an order from a taxidermist who wants a similar blade but having a rounded place going back into the ricasso that is sharpened. It would be the opposite of what you are saying. That make sense? He wants to be able to cut hides on the pull stroke while rocking the blade. SAys it would be a labor saver for his arthritic hands.
