All About Pocket Knives

I recently bought this Remington knife. I was told it was quite old c1920-1930s. It doesn't have the circle stamp that I have seen on other Remington knives and there is no model number. One blade you can see and the large blade has Remington and what appears to be an arrow. I am very new to the collecting game and would appreciate some information. Thanks s-k.

I'm pretty sure that Remington used a Straight Line stamping on their economy knives. This one does have "tipped" bolsters, so it would've been less expensive to produce. But, I'm not sure about much else, like whether it's correct....hopefully you'll get some more help. Remington only made pocketknives between 1920-1940...I suppose it could be a PAL made of old Remington parts, after they purchased Remington's knife business...but, if it's correct, it's a nice find.

Ah! I am learning so much already. Just saw the tang stamps under the 'Research' heading. Maybe 'cheaper' meant something different in the 1930s. It seems to be a solid and decent quality knife. s-k

Good looking knife you have there. It is a genuine pre 40 Remington with the straight line stamping, and schroll shield. It is a pattern RC-7. having a spear main blade, they also made a RC-8 that is identical to yours that had a clip main blade. I've noticed that the pattern number was generally inked on the reverse tang of the main blade on these knives and wore away quickly with use. The straight line stamping does mean a lower quality knife than the circle stamping. Your knife sold new for 35 cents in 1938. A mint one will bring $125-150. Yours seem to be in excellent condition, and would book for around $60.
