All About Pocket Knives

Had a REALLY exciting day yesterday.After going to see our new grand-daughter and re-striping the side of a Cadillac for a friend of mine,my wife and I were headed up to Jackson to stripe another vehicle for one of my accounts.
Proceeding north on Rte.127(a two lane non-divided highway with occasional passing lanes)we were cruising about 65mph in light traffic when all of a sudden about 6 or 7 does scramble across the highway from my left to right.A car coming in the other direction nails one in the middle of the herd shattering his windshield and launching a 100 lb. fleshy curling stone right into my lane! This thing was sliding and flipping over and coming right at me! Somehow I managed to keep the car upright and on the road using every bit of the breakdown lane and not run over it.The car is a 4WD Geo Tracker with a very high center of gravity and does not lend itself well to rapid oscillations of the steering wheel.
Then as I'm getting back into the lane and looking in my mirror to see if the truck in back of me missed her,I almost hit an oncoming semi!
I just pulled over and sat for awhile;I couldn't drive for about 15 minutes.The strangest thing is the guy who hit the deer in the first place never even stopped! The guy in back of me in the truck luckily had a firearm in his vehicle(it was a farm truck)and dispatched the suffering deer.He then loaded it up in his truck and headed off;presumably to enjoy his recently found venison.
This isn't the first time I've come close to hitting a deer(they are EVERYWHERE in Michigan)but it is the first time I've seen so many in the middle of the day and definitely the first time I've had one LAUNCHED at me!
So if you have a large deer population around you,please be careful.

Glad it turned out OK for you k7k. Sounds like it could have been a very different outcome (on your part). Also glad to hear the deer was put to good use. I picked one up I seen hit one time also. It was a big old buck and the toughest deer I ever ate. I guess he didn't get hard enough to tenderize his old hide. Glad your OK!

You laugh but it's all so true...I hit a 250 lb Boar Hog going 70 mph last year in my Toyota Tundra and did $15,000 in damage and lost the truck for 5 weeks. The dadgum airbag went off and that was worse than the entire episode, nasty stupid things. I nearly choked to death from the gas they use to explode those things off.

This was the 3rd wild hog I've hit not counting the deer, buzzards, hawks, crows and other assorted wildlife I try to evade on my 90 mile roundtrip to work and home again. It is "Old Florida" where cell phones don't work and Yankees don't come visit , nothing but cow pastures, woods and orange trees.

With the purchase of my new full size 4 door Tundra (nicest truck I've ever drove and I have driven 45,000 miles a year since 1984 on assorted trucks) I purchased a rancher grille guard that will hopefully slow down the onslaught.

I brought a wild boar hog I killed with my truck to one of my employees several years ago because he asked for the meat. It was by far the nastiest thing to butcher and smell in my life, I won't go into the assorted organs that were busted up..Yikes...Never again...
