DLT trading have great customer service. Mike at Collector Knives is also good to do business with, as are Lee and Melissa at Olde Town Cutlery. Jane at the Sheffield Shop in England cannot do enough for you.

Pawn shops and we take short trips to towns with lots of antique shops
and flea markets. I also buy online but it's no fun doing that, I like the
human interaction, the hunt and then the haggling. If I'm not having
fun then what's the use in doing it at all.

Because of my location (on an island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean) all my knife buying is done online. There are stores here that sell knives for the hunting/fishing clientele, but nothing for collectors like me. So, I tend to buy a lot on eBay and have generally had pretty good luck getting what the sellers advertised; only ever had to return a couple. However, in my experience, AAPK sellers are by FAR the best and most reliable. With many of them it's almost like buying from a family member.

I have also purchased knives from a LOT of different dealers including most of the ones already listed, but here are a few more:

Not much opportunity here in my small community in Iowa to do that… there aren’t many shops. I stop only if I happen to see a spot while traveling for another reason,

I don't think that's strange at all. I too HATE haggling. Shoot me a price and if I think it's something I can live with, I'll buy it. Maybe that's part of the reason I dislike selling. First, I have no idea what to ask for the item and I usually end up with sellers remorse. I know I'm a strange duck in the knife world but I can live with that.

I'm not a haggler either.

To me haggling is half the fun, even though some sellers get mad.

I agree. I enjoy haggling also. Those who get mad, I generally avoid dealing with them next time.

I come from a knife collecting time when “the haggle” was part of the fun. And once the deal is agreed you have to assume both sides are equally satisfied (or dissatisfied) else the deal wouldn’t have been made. Then afterward we can haggle again over who is buying the “beverages”, with both parties insisting on picking up the tab! (Often costing way more than the difference being haggled over in the knife deal! ).

Coming from that background, another thing that mystifies me is sellers who get mad at your first offer. Ebay sellers listing items as “best offer” but then decline to respond to an offer, when they should be making a counter offer, not ignoring your offer. After all, the seller at least has an interested buyer - why run them off by ignoring them?

Sadly the internet has taken away the interpersonal aspect of our hobby.

I must of been standing behind the tree when they distributed “the art of the haggle”

But I don’t mind offers… in fact I just put a knife on GunBroker for a fixed price, but with parameters on offers (auto accept and auto reject)

I don’t get mad, as a seller, with offers…. For example… I simply say ‘no thank you, but thanks for looking’ when a buyer submits an offer I don’t wish to accept

I make offers all the time on eBay when buying knives… some get accepted, some do not

You are right Ken.
I just remembered a story. When I was still in the Navy we anchored off Pattaya Beach, Thailand. Back then I was buying my daughter a doll from every port-a-call we made and here I found a very nice one. I stopped in this shop two or three times a day for two days going back and forth with the shop owner before we settled on a price. He was so happy he gave me some other small inexpensive doll to go with it. In so many places it’s just the way they do business. In some countries shop owners will do just about anything for that first sell of the day. It's suppose to bring good luck.

I don't budge in the price, I don't sell much anyway and when I do I don't make much if anything at all. When I do sell a knife it's because I don't want it anymore so usually it's less than I paid for it. There are people out there that just won't pay the asking price so give yourself some wiggle room when you sell.

Ive been trading horses since I was a kid so I guess I kinda like the haggling some. I never haggled on dogs tho, it was my price or nothing if I bred and trained them. knives I set a bit more than I want, but I dont sell very many. What does gaul me is the low ballers and tire kickers. Cant stand it one bit.
Im thinkin of goin back to Nam, I wonder if they still like to go back and forth or have just become so capitalistic they have a price take it or leave it?

I have purchased from Case Knife Outlet https://www.caseknifeoutlet.com/index.cfm and found some new, old stock deals. But lately, new traditionals haven't been as appealing for me as they once were.
