All About Pocket Knives

Thought I'd share a photo of my Grandfather's pocketwatch and knife.
I also found his old employee group photo when he worked at the cotton mill.
He's the one second row from bottom first on right. Besides my Father, he was the finest man I ever knew.
My first memories were of me sitting on his knee listening to his watch tick. He gave it to me before he died because he said the first thing I'd do when I saw him was to start looking for his watch. He's been gone for fifty years now,but I still miss him.

Very cool, Tim. I have watches that belonged to both grandfathers (my dad didn't like wearing a watch) and pocket knives that belonged to my dad, both grandfathers and one great-grandfather. I cherish them the most.

I have my Grandpa's pocket watch, but not a knife from him. Sure wish I did.

Yep, he carried a Sunfish for his work knife and he carried a Boker Congress on Sundays.

The older we get and the longer they're gone , the more precious these things are.

Mamaw Napier gave me a small quilt she made from Papaw Napier's Sunday jackets that I cherish. I've got Daddy's old green unmarked hunter ( like a Case 65) that Papaw Fry borrowed to cut hogs and sharpened with a file ! Daddy was so aggravated and said he wouldn't get it again, there wasn't a whole lot left to borrow.

So many people these days fail to see the value in the simple little things, like a worn out pocket knife or an outdated watch. Those items were with our fathers and grandfathers every day, assisting them with their daily tasks. It’s probably one of the deepest tangible connections we can have with them.

I also have my granddad’s Imperial jack knife and Elgin watch. They’re treasures to me.

Very nice post, Tim. It seems to me that the younger folks do not care so much about the things passed down. Maybe part of that is that they have and always have had just lots of material stuff. I have one of my Dad's pocket knives, a cheap Kutmaster. But when I open it and look at the blades he wore down sharpening it, I do remember him sitting in his rocking chair in front of the fire sharpening his pocket knife.

My grandfather on moms' side was the finest man I ever knew.
I have a few of his knives but I never saw him with a watch.
