Have had this for many years & have not been able to verify whether it is actually military or not. Any ideas?

Interesting fixed blade, Ray. According to Goins, these guys sparked the "Country of Origin" laws because they were German pretending to be English. I have looked this up before because I have an old Wade Bros. whittler that was made by them in attempt to mimick an English brand.
They were in business from 1866-1877, according to Goins.

And oddly enough, both the "Y" in "Thiele Y Quack" and the word "Arantizado" are Spanish, for "and" and "Guaranteed", respectively. So they weren't just pretending to be English, but Spanish as well, apparently...
