I’m curious if we took a poll of the lube, rust preventer, protectant, oil we all like which one might be more popular. I’m not talking about the Latama oil used in the action of the knife. Just in general as a do all.

I use Balistol almost exclusively. Does it all but partially good at rust protection. I know,IT HAS A SCENT. I USED 3in1, REM oil,and a few others but it needs to be reapplied frequently. Balistol is good for a LONG TIME. NO RUST. THE

Never have tried Balistol but have heard good things about it. Once I discovered Tuf-Glide (and its companion Tuf-Cloth) years ago, I’ve never had an interest in or need for anything else as a protectant. Combined with Quick Release oil as the lube there may be other products as good but IMHO there is nothing better.

I think you’ll be glad you tried it. It was developed for use by the military during the first gulf war for use in weaponry, and since has been adapted to knives, fishing tackle and anything metal. I was introduced to it at the range by a Marine veteran of Operation Desert Storm. It goes on wet but dries leaving the proprietary active ingredient (I suspect molybdenum disulfide) bonded to the metal. Just be sure to read and follow the directions.

Put me down for Quick Release, but I have also used gun oil (Remington, Colt, as found in cleaning kits, etc.) as well.

After cleaning all the dried up,green grease out of the Coricama I put lithium grease on / in the moving parts and Balistol on the metal surfaces. Grease didn’t slow it down a bit!

Lard is better than nothing. Probably catch and hold a lot of dirt, lint, etc though.

I’m sorry though if I bring up past subjects. I just can’t read everything from the past. We SHOULD talk about SOMETHING though. Right?
This is a Forum. Right?

No need to apologize, jw, if you don't ask you'll never know.

It may be a old topic but there are some new members here who have had
knives for years and may shed some new light on what works for them.
Always good to review and learn.

I was paging through the old posts last nite and found a like thread a year or two ago. It seemed the oils mentioned were different than this week. Different names anyway. One of the reasons I sold most of my WWII KNIVES is I had to keep after them with oil. I was using 3 and 1 and it did not prevent rust past a month or two. The Balistol lasts a LONG TIME. REALLY!

No gum, lasts, no mess or smell, needle application accuracy. Love the stuff, has replaced all my 3 in 1, gun oil, etc.
