RR2369 Clip blade nail nick inaccessible

Ended up with 3 NIB RRs from the shallow end of the bay. Posted them on Mail-Call thread where I mentioned the nail nick for the clip blade on the RR Barlow was inaccessible.
This morning I looked the knife over again and decided I could shorten the height of the kick on the pen and drop it enough to reveal the nail nick on the clip. Used my little WorkSharp to carefully grind it down. Seems to be okay, still need a strong thumb nail to open it.

Kick had enough meat to lower it without jeopardizing the pen blades nick.

Looks like you lowered that pen blade just enough to be able to access the pull on the clip, but you might risk breaking off the corner of your thumb nail. If you want to raise the clip up just a bit without taking the knife apart, I would spot weld a dot of steel onto the highest point of the kick. If you don't have access to welding, a dot of solder would probably accomplish the same thing.

Thanks for that suggestion, Herb!
Looks like the old sayin', "There's usually more than one way to skin a cat", is true. ::tu::

Before you try welding, try peening the kick, stretch it a little. I have done that successfully before. Sometimes the blade is too hard, but it's worth a try before you try welding.

I’ve noticed this problem on several RR barlows. It’s a shame because they are perfect otherwise I jammed a piece of toothpick into the liners and it made the main blade stand up enough to be usable. I had to do that with a RR muskrat as well.

I just made a post about the "rare" RRs and this thread pops up. I never did anything more with the RR Barlow in the pic. I had decided if I ever needed to use that particular knife, dropping the pen further & grinding an ez open divot into the frame and handle to access the main clip. ::shrug::
