Ugly revolving door of eBay

Here is what I am quite sure is the same Robeson knife that is okay except for the fact that the handles are not correct or original for the knife. It is now up for sale on eBay for the third time with a significant price increase on each sale. The block letter stamp on this knife is normally dated to 1945 or later and the handle material would be appropriate for a pre 1940 knife. The handles are also very poorly formed and if original on an older knife they would not be so squared off at liners. The handles are new German made, candy stripe celluloid that is seen on many reworked knives.

The irony of this knife is that it is now making it's third appearance on eBay. First sold for $77.87, next sold for $149.55 and now priced on a Buy It Now for $345 or best offer. The pictures are placed in order with the first sale shown at top. Note the pin positions on the celluloid being identical on all three sets of pictures.

eBay is a minefield of bogus, reworked, counterfeit and overpriced junk knives and sadly many of them are selling all the same as good. There are still some very honest knives for sale from reputable sellers but you better know what you are bidding on to navigate through all the mines.

As usual you are right on, Wayne. It’s a sad situation that so many “collectors” are so easily and readily fleeced. A frightening aspect of this particular listing is the propensity for German-sourced celluloid to off gas at an accelerated rate. ::disgust::

Yeah Wayne, the seller biydee is known for buying knives on ebay and putting them back on ebay a week later with a much higher price. He must sell some, he does it every week.
