All About Pocket Knives

I have an LB7 that I got for my 14th birthday (1977). The knife was new and in a box marked with the Sears Craftsman branding. The leather case was stamped "Craftsman". But the knife is marked Schrade + USA LB7

So my question is did Schrade mark the LB7 as Craftsman ot one point, or were they an LB7 stuffed into the craftsman marked case and box.

I had asked for a hunting knife...my step-dad said the folder was more appropriate than a fixed blade and he was a Sears/Craftsman/Kenmore freak...that was back before Sears found "The Softer Side".

Here are the pics of my knife and the case...you can still kind of see the Craftsman stamp on the leather flap above the snap

I'm far from an expert on this matter, but I do not recall ever seeing an LB-7 marked "Craftsman".

They Schrade did make a knife marked: Sears Craftsman USA 95206.
The knife had CRAFTSMAN STAINLESS STEEL etch on blade

The only difference is the tang stamp, so I am guessing that yours had the wrong blade installed from the factory when Sears placed a large order.

Coempare the shape of the the knife to the knife in the op. The knife in the op is a LB7. The one you posted is a Craftsman made by Camillus.
Notice the handle of your knife has a continous curve from the rear bolster to the front bolster.
The curve of the handle in the op stops about where the front bolster begins.

I'm not sure why the LB7 was in the Craftsman box, perhaps Camillus was making some LB7s for Schrade and it was mistakenly put in s Craftsman box.

According to Tom Williams, who worked at Camillus for 30 years, Camillus did make LB7s for Schrade.

Top is marked Schrade LB7, bottom is marked Craftsman 95206 to compare differences. Note pins, slight differences in bolsters and angles.

Wow...so much to learn. You folks are great.

This all came up because I purchased a Schrade LB7 so that I can semi-retire the old Craftsman. When the new/old knife got to me, it was marked with a 6 digit serial number...so I did some digging and worked out that is was produced in 1979...that would be a couple of years after the Craftsman, based on my receiving the Craftsman in March of 1977.

All that to say that the Craftsman knife is a little thinner in body than the Schrade knife. I don't have pics of the newer knife, but will get something up this evening

Thanks, fortunately I have one of each for reference.

Here is three knives the top one is Craftsman 4 pin Second Schrade +USA LB7 4pin .The third is Uncle Henry Schrade + LB7 USA.
The only differences is the pin placement and the bottom bolster is slightly bigger on the Craftsman. Also the bolster on the Craftsman is slightly rounded.

I would say you are right. I posted a picture of three knives together. Put them together and there is a slightly different in pins and bolsters.

Schrade did make an LB7 for Sears. It had dark handles. I don’t have a pic handy. It also had a sheath marked craftsmen. Most likely answer is that sheath is not original to that knife.

Here is a pic. I have the sheath some where but it is black and just like the one in the original post.

I’ve been trying to sort this for weeks now… is it Camillus or Schrade? Everyone seems to note the “S” curve in the bolsters as an obvious difference, but not one soul in the world has mentioned the fact that the Camillus 95233 has a flat a flat grind and the Schrade 95206 has a hollow grind?
Now to figure out whether a Craftsman 95078 American Eagle needs to be included in my Schrade 5” folders or not?

Can you post a picture of those two knives together? I don't know if they are in the picture posted immediately after your post I quoted or not.

I have a quick story about this knife. As I said I was 14 when I got it for my birthday, the first part of March. Later that month my family drove down to visit my Grandmother for Easter in Phoenix. I had a school thing and wasn't able to leave with my family when they drove, so they bought me a plane ticket. Only my 2nd time on a plane, and my first time to fly alone. Flew out of LA-X, and yup, I had my new knife with me, on my belt. Security made me put in my duffle bag and check the bag. I was sure that they were gonna lose it, but it was there when I picked up my bag. My step dad chewed my butt for bringing the knife and making him wait for baggage, when he had told me to just carry my small bag on the plane. But I had my trusty knife with me in the wilds of Arizona.
